For any traveler, markets are often a gateway into a culture’s subconscious. The piece is home-movie in flavor but with a more self-conscious structure. It consists mostly of hand held static shots of various market vendors that hold longer than their conventional cut point. Coupled with a young girls simple humming and bursts of single-frames, it creates a tension that offers an insight into the rhythms and feel of the market that is closer to its essence. This piece is used on Stumptown’s website to diversify the content, so it’s not all coffee –centric and to further promote the idea that Stumptown is not only investing relations with farmers but with cultures.
